The Boom was formed in 1989 by vocalist and guitarist Masashi Ueda, bassist Hiroshi Kuji, drummer Shouji Koike, and keyboardist Mitsuru Ohtake. The band's early years were marked by a distinctive sound that blended elements of rock, pop, and folk. Their debut single, "Aimai na Hibi," was released in 1990 and marked the beginning of a successful career that would see them release numerous chart-topping hits.
